Norfolk Race Series
Crit Series Wraps Up
Submitted by Newsline on Thu, 08/14/2008 - 12:01pm.The Norfolk Criterium Series wrapped up August 12 at Northeast Community College, with three races comprising the rain-shortened series. The NECC campus provided a great venue for some good racing action throughout the year with plenty of space for close battles and full-on attacks.
Duane Blair made a clean sweep of the series, handily winning each of the "A" Category 45 minute races held in 2008. Jon Downey won the "B" race, picking up the series win as well with two wins and one second place finish for the year.
Newcomer Joe Schreiner soloed in the "C" men's race as did Sara Herzinger in the "C" women's race.
The Norfolk Race Series, which includes the Crit series, resumes on August 26 at 7PM with a mountain bike race at Maskenthine Lake. read more »
August 5 Norfolk Time Trial Report
Submitted by jond on Wed, 08/06/2008 - 10:27am.A new race course was used for the August 5 edition of the Norfolk Time Trial series run under clear skies and near perfect conditions. The new course, starting and finishing at the Norfolk Airport Authority building south of Norfolk features several turns and elevation changes on roads that see little traffic. A three mile roll south on Old Highway 81 is followed by some rolling hills on secondary roads around the mile section before returning to Old 81 at the Fairplay road. The "A" racers completed a second lap around the section for 12 miles while the "B" riders did the entire course just once for 8 miles.
Duane Blair took the A race with an average speed of 24.19mph. Dennis Smith won the "B" race at 20.47mph with Jan Hake taking the Women's B race.
The next race promoted by the Elkhorn Valley Cycling Club will be a criterium at Northeast Community College on August 12 at 7PM. This will finish a three-week stand of club races including a mountain bike race, a time trial and the August 12 criterium. The full schedule of upcoming races along with fast and recreational group rides can be found at www.nencycling.org read more »
Time Trial Venue Change
Submitted by jond on Sun, 08/03/2008 - 6:24pm.The Norfolk TT race scheduled for August 5 at 7PM will start at the north end of the access road in front of the Norfolk Airport, basically at Highway 81 (S. 13th Street) and Sherwood Road.
Here is the map of the route: http://www.mapmyride.com/ride/united-states/ne/norfolk/107483885232
Possible TT Venue Change
Submitted by jond on Wed, 07/02/2008 - 12:48pm.I propose a change in location to the remaining time trials. There has been a dramatic decrease in turnout which may or may not be attributed to its current location. Highway 35 is a great training route but it carries quite a bit of traffic. A move to the location proposed below would get us off of heavily travelled roads and give us more exposure along with other location benefits. read more »

Duane Blair lined up against brothers John and Dan Spray in the "A" race, with Duane coming away with the win, averaging just under 24 mph over 8 miles. Dennis Smith bested Mark Herzinger to win the "B" race at over 20mph.
Duane Blair and Dennis Smith continue to lead the points race in their respective divisions.
The next race of the Norfolk Race Series is a criterium at Northeast Community College on July 15.
Norfolk Race Series Remains the Same
Submitted by jond on Mon, 06/30/2008 - 9:56am.After some deliberation, the decision is made. For 2008, the Norfolk Race Series schedule will remain as posted. For 2009 we will make the recommended changes (more crits). There might be more MTB action added to the line-up as well.
And right now, with two TT's coming up on the Rider of the Year Series schedule, its appropriate that there be a TT on the schedule now.
I know its only June, but we need to start thinking about Cyclocross as well. Now if Norfolk would only build a velodrome....
Time Trial Series Off and Running
Submitted by jond on Tue, 06/17/2008 - 8:12pm.The delayed start of the Norfolk Time Trial Series was almost delayed again with threats of thunderstorms. No severe weather moved into the area but rain showers still soaked the riders during the last half of the race. A busy spring that has forced many locals into a mid-season funk kept numbers low but the competition on hand was still fierce. read more »
