EVCC Takes on Sioux Falls Criterium
The Elkhorn Valley Cycling powered by Monster race team traveled to Sioux Falls, South Dakota for the Avera Downtown Criterium August 23. The event, promoted by Central Plains Cycling, was held in the downtown district of Sioux Falls on a sweeping course containing one sharp hill. The event ran smoothly from start to finish with only one crash the entire day.
First up for EVCC was Joe Savoie (Omaha) in the Masters class. Savoie rode a great race taking one of the three primes and scoring a third place. Savoie would return later in the day to finish 12th in a fast Men's 1-2-3 race.
EVCC launched a full attack on the Men's Category 4 race, fielding fours riders in a battle with the host club contingent of nine. Duane Blair (Norfolk) took away all three primes in the race but was held to fourth in the final sprint by a trio of Central Plains Cycling riders determined not to let Blair take the win. "They weren't about to let me get away going up the hill again." remarked Blair afterward.
Elkhorn Valley Cycling riders Dan Spray (Norfolk) and Kevin Murray (Lincoln) took sixth and seventh, while John Spray (Norfolk) came in 11th.
Next up for the team on the road is the Nebraska State Road Race scheduled for September 19th in Lincoln.
