Team Type 1 (TT1) is a professional and amatuer race team comprised of members who suffer from type one or type two diabetes.
Quoting from TT1′s Facebook page:
“Our goal is to inspire people with diabetes around the world to take control of their health through diet, exercise and proper health care,” said team co-founder Phil Southerland who was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at seven months old. “As a professional team, racing against the world’s best cyclists, we’ll be able to deliver that message to a much wider audience.”
Team Type 1 has grown from 8 riders in 2006 to over 75 team members, pro men and women cyclists, elite cyclists (all with Type 1), triathlete team (all Type 1), and and Team Type 2 all person with Type 2 diabetes.
Team Type 1 is dedicated to people with diabetes worldwide. Goal: HBA1C – > strive for 6.5."
In 2010 the amatuer Team Type 1 – Nebraska partnered with the Elkhorn Valley Cycling Club. Team Type 1 – Nebraska will function as a USA Cycling road racing team with riders working together and as teammates of Elkhorn Valley Cycling powered by Monster. Craig Harding will serve as team leader and contact person for Team Type 1 – Nebraska.
Administratively, those riders wishing to ride for Team Type 1 – Nebraska will become members of the Elkhorn Valley Cycling Club. When applying for a USAC license, riders will join the Elkhorn Valley Cycling Club and choose Team Type 1 – Nebraska as their race team. As members of Elkhorn Valley Cycling Club, Team Type 1 – Nebraska receive all benefits of the club.
