Omaha Cycling Weekend Wrap-up

Joe Savoie at the Babcook Memorial Road Race

The Omaha Cycling Weekend is in the books, with an asterisk. The asterisk would denote incredbily hot temperatures and heat indices in the 110+ degrees range on both Saturday and Sunday. Those that stuck it out and finished their races were tough enough but those that rode multiple races over the weekend, noteably Joe Savoie and Glen Houts (who raced multiple times at the Papio Crit), deserve extra credit for their effots.
EVCC had two riders podium at Saturday morning’s Elkhorn Time Trial in the Dynamic Duo of and Cole Skiba (2nd) and Glen “Buddy” Houts (3rd). The highest placed riders at the Papio Twilight Crit were Buddy Houts and Janna Vavra who each garnered a fourth place. Sunday’s Babcook Memorial Road Race was a good one for EVCC stalwart Joe Savoie who took a third place in the Men’s Masters 40+ race. The Dynamic Dup struck again in the road race but this time Houts was 3rd with Skiba just off the podium in 4th. Not to be ignored were Addison Albin and Dan Zieg who had strong races both Satuday and Sunday.
The “Hardman Award” for the weekend goes out to Glen Houts. At the Papio Crit Glen lined up, in the heat and humidity, for the Men’s Masters race (9th), Men’s Cat 5 race (5th), then upgraded to Cat 4 and race again getting 21st. Great effort Glen!
