Bad Week for MTB Tires

Try as I might, I could not get through a ride on the mountain bike this week. Thursday I was in Lincoln so I took the NRS along planning to ride Wilderness Park. It was borderline muddy but some careful maneuvering kept me out of trouble. But, all that maneuvering helped me find a giant nail which destroyed my only tube. Several attempts at patching it yielded me a walk back to my truck.

To add insult to injury, when I replaced the tube I found the sidewall had gotten cut and the tire was toast. Scratch one Nevegal off the inventory.

Off goes the remaining Nevegal and back on go my well-used Scorpions.

Third Time's A Charm for Maskenthine XC Classic

Tim Powell powered 7 laps in the marathon.

After two rain delays, the Maskenthine XC Classic went off without a hitch under nearly perfect weather conditions. As the sixth race of the 2009 Nebraska Lottery Psycowpath series, the Classic attracted nearly 100 riders to the course north of Stanton.

Maskenthine XC Classic is ON!

The Maskenthine XC Classic is on for tomorrow August 29, 2009. Course conditions are excellent and the event will run as scheduled with all conditions as listed in the official race guide here http://psycowpath.com/mas...

Race headquarters will again be in the picnic shelter near the boat dock. Parking will be available in this area but please keep a lane open to allow fisherman to get to the boat dock.

Maskenthine Volunteer List

Follow this link http://spreadsheets.googl... to see the current volunteer list for the Maskenthine XC Classic.

Everyone who is volunteering should bring sunscreen, bug spray, and a camp chair of some sort.

The volunteer list subject to change, but this it for now.

We could use a tent or two, with the main one for the timers at the finish line. There are plenty of tables and seating already available at Maskenthine. However, Shawn and Jan may have other plans for their food service.

One Postponed, One Still On

Norfolk XC race for tonight postponed due to trail conditions. Look for reschedule date soon. Maskenthine XC Classic Psycowpath still on ...

MTB Week for EVCC

This week might be known as Mountain Bike Week for those associated with the Elkhorn Valley Cycling Club. The Club will be putting on two mountain bike events at the trails at Maskenthine Lake north of Stanton this week.

EVCC Takes on Sioux Falls Criterium

The Elkhorn Valley Cycling powered by Monster race team traveled to Sioux Falls, South Dakota for the Avera Downtown Criterium August 23. The event, promoted by Central Plains Cycling, was held in the downtown district of Sioux Falls on a sweeping course containing one sharp hill. The event ran smoothly from start to finish with only one crash the entire day.

First up for EVCC was Joe Savoie (Omaha) in the Masters class. Savoie rode a great race taking one of the three primes and scoring a third place. Savoie would return later in the day to finish 12th in a fast Men's 1-2-3 race.

Sioux Falls Criterium This Sunday

Dan Spray edges out Joe Savoie for the win at the 2008 SF Criterium. The 2009 edition is this Sunday.

The 2009 Sioux Falls Criterium and South Dakota State Criterium Championships are this Sunday in Sioux Falls South Dakota. Dustin Bakker and the rest of the CPC club did a great job with the event in 2008 and this year should be no different.

The course features several right and left hand corners and and uphill finish set in downtown Sioux Falls.

Several Elkhorn Valley Cycling powered by Monster team members will be in attendance,

The Women Tear it Up at Tranquility Tire Tantrum

The Elkhorn Valley Cycling powered by Monster race team was well-represented at the Tranquility Tire Tantrum, part of the Nebraska Lottery Psycowpath MTB series held August 8 at Tranquility Park in Omaha. Scorching heat caused many riders who started to drop out of the race, giving all those who finished extra cause for self-satisfaction.

Rhonda Wright powered to a strong second place finish in the Cat 2 Women's race. This is only Rhonda's second year of racing.

Taira Anderson rolled a newly-acquired Giant Trance to a convincing win in the Junior Women 16-18 division.

Leadville 100 results via Twitter - McNeill Top 15

For those that tried to watch the streaming telecast of the Leadville 100 MTB race today, the closest thing about the finish was whether or not the race's webcast was going to starting working in time to see the finish. Fortunately, the overwhelmed website began streaming video again just in time to see Lance Armstrong win the race on a flat rear tire with nearly a half hour to spare ahead of perenial winner Dave Weins. When asked by the show's reporters what slowed him down - presumably to a mere second place - Weins responded that he thought he had a ridden a good race, but Armstrong is faster.

Norfolk TT Series 8-11-2009

The Norfolk Time Trial Series entered the month of August with a fantastic turnout and some equally fantastic times.

In Men's "A", Devin Bethune set the pace inspiring both Richard Hake and Todd Jochum to reach personal records. Jan Hake followed suit also setting a personal record to win the Women's "B" race.

Tyler Campbell won the Men's "B" race with a great showing and Brent Miller took the Men's "C" race.

The Norfol Race Series picks up again on August 25 with a cross country mountain bike race at Maskenthine, which will be a prieview of the Nebraska Psycowpath race to be held at the same venue on August 29.

Getting Started in Cycling: What Every Woman Should Know

from Triple Crankset by

By Amber Rais

Sport is about human performance, not female or male performance, so in a lot of ways, cycling allows us to ignore our gender differences, sometimes to the point where we women are actually mistaken for men when dressed in our spandex, helmets and sunglasses. For all of our similarities, though, men and women are different.

The Third Brake

Well, I was able to write up a race report for the Tour of KC. If you are a little sqeamish you may not want to look at some of the pictures. You have been warned.
